IN THIS SECTION
The Basic Sciences Department,
which is one of the fundamental building blocks of the Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine education-training program, includes the departments of Anatomy,
Biochemistry, Physiology, Histology-Embryology, and History of Veterinary
Medicine and Deontology. The
Departments in question represent the basic scientific fields of veterinary
medicine and aim to provide students with the basic knowledge, skills and
attitudes that they need to acquire in the first stage of their professional training.
In this context, the courses
within the department are mainly included in the first and second year
education programs of the faculty and provide a scientific infrastructure for
students to comprehend the clinical and practical courses in a healthier way.
Through these courses, students are
taught in detail the structural and functional properties of the animal
organism at the cell, tissue, organ and system levels, the developmental
processes of these structures, physiological functioning mechanisms and basic
biochemical principles. At the same time, individual and interspecies
behavioral characteristics of animals and their interaction with other living
things are also discussed from an ethological perspective. Students also learn
in detail the concept of metabolism, as well as the biochemical events and
energy conversion processes that enable living organisms to maintain their
vital activities.
In addition, the historical
development process of the veterinary profession, professional ethical
principles, animal welfare and animal rights issues are also included in the
course content, and the aim is to develop students not only in terms of knowledge
but also in the areas of ethical sensitivity, professional awareness and social
responsibility. In this context, the department contributes to a multifaceted
and holistic education process that supports students not only in acquiring
professional knowledge but also in their critical thinking, analytical
evaluation and ethical decision-making skills.
